"Ohio Art toy?"

   Hello Dave,

I have a brief question about a toy tub I found this weekend. It is approximately 20 to 22 inches in diameter and perhaps 10 to 12 inches tall. Yellow in color. With Mickey, Pluto and Donald pictured around the sides. It is in good shape with no rust. I beleive it is meant to hold toys, but not sure.

The dealer said he figured it was made by Ohio Art. It has the Walt Disney Company Copyright mark .

I wondered about age and the dealer said probably the 50's or maybe 60's.

Would like to know your thoughts on this? How old is it? And where could I look to find the current value of something like this?

This old computer I'm using at present will not go to E-Bay. Gives me fits.

   Hello Annarah.

I need to see a picture to give a more definitive answer, but Ohio Art was a Disney licensee from 1933-1942, and then from 1944-1945. They didn't produce anything in the '50s or '60s.

Ohio Art didn't make tin toy chests, however they did manufacture washing tubs and wastepaper baskets made of tin. Perhaps the item you have is one of the large-sized washtubs.

I searched in my reference library and found some images of the aforementioned, but nothing looked like it had Mickey, Minnie and Donald on it.

If you are able to send a picture, I'd be able to help more.

Cheers.

David

   Hello Dave,

Having gotten our better computer back on line, I managed to find a "large 1960's Toy Tub with Mickey Mouse, Pluto, and Donald Duck," currently being run on eBay. That tub appears to be about the same as the one I found except ours is yellow inside and out and in much better condition than the one on eBay.

Thanks again for your help.

   Hi.

Found the item you mentione don eBay. It's unlike anything I've seen that would have been manufactured by Ohio Art. Maybe Chein was the manufacturer? I'd have to do some more searching, but at least I know what it looks like.

Cheers.

David
